Owens Corning Prominence

Product History

The Owens Corning Prominence shingle is another discontinued 3 tab shingle that was advertised as a 30 year architectural product. It has specific color variation to mimic the look as the architectural shingles.

To the untrained eye, the cosmetic difference is not noticeable. This product is known for premature deterioration just like its defective counterparts. These were popular for builders to install on homes with the idea of giving the "architectural look" while maintaining the lower cost of a 3-tab shingle.

Discontinued

These shingles have been discontinued and out of market production since 2009. They consistently fail prematurely, filling up gutters and downspouts with granular runoff. It is fairly common to see this shingle become compromised within 10-15 years of installation.

Homeowners Insurance: Is it Covered?

The good news to homeowners is that under almost every circumstance, it will be covered if there is any storm related damage to the shingle. More times than not, the condition of the shingles are not repairable, and the materials cannot be matched with "Like, Kind & Quality" shingles. This will force the hand of the insurance carrier to move forward with replacing your entire roof system, no matter how minimal the damage is.
